Her Voice:
The Power of Women Coming Together
“I hear stories of the women in India who need us. I think about their challenges, and I try to put myself in their shoes. These women are daughters, sisters, wives, and mothers just like me. Women are nurturers. We take care of what is around us, our families and those we love, and we can’t help but want to uplift, nurture, and heal.”

Her world: Community

FINDING HOPE
HER RESILIENCE TO OVERCOME

We interviewed two college students who grew up in Manipur, India. Both of these young women spent a portion of their childhood living in the Hope Children’s Home, a Christian home run by our partner, IGL.

Both girls were 10 years old when they were taken to the home. Each of them share a bit of their journey of growing up in Manipur to their new life as college students in Salem, India. Both girls have experienced very difficult circumstances but through their faith in Christ they have learned to overcome hardships. They were living at the children’s home in Manipur when riots turned violent and spread throughout the state last May. They share what it was like to live in the home while much of the surrounding villages were under attack.

HER Journal—Women’s Global Voices will bring you stories and insights on women’s work, life, and triumph, as well as their
opportunities to become change agents.
